Company
Thomas
Reid & Sons (Paisley) Ltd. was founded in 1852, as a blacksmith
and general engineers to support the Paisley thread and textile
industry. A passionate sailor, Thomas Reid was unsatisfied with
the quality of the deck machinery available and and with his sons
they applied their practical seamanship and mechanical engineering
skills to the creation of much improved designs. The aesthetic of
form follows correctness in function and soon many famous yachts
were equipped, or re-equipped, by Thomas Reid & Sons (Paisley)
Ltd., these included H.M.Y. Britannia,
S.Y. Shamrock, S.Y. Endeavour and many more.
Fitness for purpose and quality in materials and manufacture are
no less important to the crews of naval vessels and merchantmen
and Thomas Reid & Sons (Paisley) Ltd. quickly became a preferred
supplier to the world’s navies and shipping companies. This
tradition of excellence continues today under the direction of the
present Thomas Reid, the companies fifth Managing Director in a
direct family line from the firm’s founder
